Our Rooted Tale
From a childhood kitchen to a Halifax celebration table
Margot Anahi Avalos Aguirre knew she wanted to do this since she was a child. The gift she asked for at Christmas was an Easy-Bake oven. She has never fully outgrown what that felt like: standing at a counter, decorating something, knowing it was going to make someone happy.
What came after was the formal version of the same instinct. She studied gastronomy, worked as a line cook in Mexico and the United States, then spent more than two years at one of the largest cake companies in Nuevo León, specializing in wedding and quinceañera cakes. These were not casual projects. They were the most important cakes in people's lives, made to a professional standard, for celebrations that happen once.
When her son was born in 2019, she decided she wanted to be home with him. She started taking baking and pastry classes. Decorating cookies was where everything she loved landed at once. Margot Bakes started from home in Monterrey, Nuevo León, with her son nearby and a decorating bag in her hand. Her favourite part has always been the decorating. It still is.

What she brings to every order is a professional standard and a personal one held together. The cakes she made in Nuevo León had to be right. The cookie she makes for someone's daughter's birthday has to be right in a different way, one that matters just as much. She holds both at the same time.
She works from home, which means she never leaves. The kitchen is the studio is the workspace. She has built Margot Bakes one order at a time, around her son's schedule and her own, with family and friends whose support and honest criticism have kept her moving forward.
Her goal has always been simple: bring people together through something made with care. A plate of decorated cookies at a celebration, a stack of flour tortillas at a family dinner. These are the moments she is making for, and she takes each one seriously.
