Our Rooted Tale

A care bag, a moment of gratitude, and a mission that kept growing

Before Bags of Love existed, Tiffany Wagner was already showing up. Through volunteer work and community initiatives, she had seen firsthand the challenges many people face. Not from a distance, but close enough to understand what was missing and what a small act of care could actually do.

What she started was straightforward: assemble care bags filled with essential items and get them to people experiencing homelessness and hardship. The first bags went out. The gratitude that came back was not general. It was specific, visible, and enough to make clear that this was not something she wanted to do. It was something she needed to do.

Blind Date with a Book

A Blind Date with a Book is exactly what it sounds like: a book wrapped so you cannot see the cover, with only a few clues on the outside to hint at what is inside. You choose by feel and curiosity rather than familiarity. The format strips away the tendency to reach for the same kind of book every time and replaces it with something closer to discovery.

Tiffany started offering them because books are one of the things she genuinely loves, and because the format fit the spirit of Bags of Love: something given without knowing exactly what will come back. The wrapping is part of the experience. People have described tearing it open the way they described opening gifts as children.

Customers come back for these. They buy them for themselves and then buy them for friends. They report finishing books they never would have chosen and being glad they did not get to choose. The element of surprise, it turns out, is a significant part of what people are buying.

Tiffany Wagner

Tiffany Wagner was involved in volunteer work and community initiatives long before Bags of Love existed. She came to this not as an entrepreneur looking for a business idea, but as someone who had already been in the work and had seen what was needed.

What she brought into Bags of Love from that background was an understanding of what impact actually looks like at close range. Not in reports or at a distance, but in the moment someone receives something they needed and feels it. That understanding shapes how she runs the organization and what she considers worth doing.

What drives her on difficult days is the people Bags of Love helps. Every story, every thank-you, every reminder that someone felt seen because of the work. She has also said that the support from the community around her, the volunteers, customers, and donors, reminds her that she is not doing this alone.

Every item we sell exists for a reason that has nothing to do with the item itself. The earrings, the books, the beaded pens, the scrunchies: they are real things, made carefully, and we hope you love them. But they are also how we keep the bags going. Every purchase fills a gap between what we can gather from donations and what we need to put a care bag in someone's hands.

I want you to know what it feels like on the receiving end. I have watched someone hold a care bag for the first time and go very quiet. Not because it solved everything. Because it meant that someone thought about them. That is what we are trying to deliver, every time, with every bag. Your purchase is part of that.

This organization runs on volunteers. It runs on donations and orders and people who share our page or tell a friend. It does not run on a budget that makes any of this easy. When you shop with us or donate or simply spread the word, you are closing a real gap for a real person. I do not say that as a marketing line. I say it because I have seen it happen, and I want you to know it is true.

Thank you for being part of this. Whether you have placed one order or a hundred, whether you have volunteered or donated or simply followed along: you are part of the community that makes Bags of Love possible. Small acts of kindness truly add up. We have 3,300 bags of proof.

With warmth,

Tiffany Wagner
