Our Rooted Tale

A market built on connection

Our Rooted Tale

A market built on connection

The Pop Up Market is a traveling community market across Nova Scotia — free to attend, locally rooted, and built around the makers, food vendors, and musicians who make this province worth exploring. Wherever it lands, everyone is welcome.

What is The Pop Up Market?

The Pop Up Market is exactly what Halifax has always needed and rarely had: a market that moves. Not fixed to one address or one identity, it shows up where people already are — a brewery in Burnside, a bakery in the North End, an arena in the summer heat — and turns the space into something alive.

Since 2026, Courtney Ferguson has been building something that draws on five years of working inside Halifax's vendor community. She knows the makers, the rhythms, the gaps. The Pop Up Market is where that knowledge became its own thing.

What makes it different ?

Every edition of The Pop Up Market is themed, purposeful, and shaped around the venue. A Snack + Shop at White Sails Bakery feels different from a Yard Party at Burnside Brewing — and that's the point. The market travels so that the community doesn't have to.

What makes it different ?

We are creating a dedicated space where Mexican culture is not an exotic offering but a living part of the city's fabric, people sharing food, music, stories, and parts of home with each other.

This is a safe space for everyone to develop ideas and projects to support each other and make meaningful connections. From Café Cempoal to the waterfront at Alderney Landing, the market has always grown where people already gather.

What building tomorrow looks like

The Pop Up Market doesn't have a permanent address — and that's deliberate. Courtney is building something that belongs to the whole province, not one postal code. As new dates are added through fall and winter, the market will continue finding interesting venues, themed experiences, and makers who haven't had a platform yet. The goal isn't a bigger market. It's a more connected Nova Scotia.
